You can use high-frequency words in phonics lessons to identify spelling patterns. These high-frequency word lists are categorized according to whether they are spelled entirely regularly or not. Restructuring the words this way makes reading and spelling the words easier for all students. “Rethink” teaching high-frequency words when teaching phonics.

Bring the excitement of March Madness with a Book Bracket Challenge! This fun activity encourages students to read, vote, and engage with books in a friendly competition. Follow the steps below to set up your bracket and get your students excited about reading!
1-2-3 Flip It! The game will always start with a word you choice to practice the phonics skill you are working on. Each person gets a stack of cards. Players take turns flipping over their top card from their deck. They look at the number on the bottom of the card and put it in either the 1, 2, or 3 spot on the game board. Then, the player reads the new word he made {real or silly}.
