This activity has been updated to reflect the 2020 Pi Day! I've also included an additional certificate page that leaves the year blank, and removes the ranking piece. Two traditional pi-day activities and an award certificate! Included: Pi Day Challenge "Flyer" - Students are given the first 350 digits of Pi, they have to memorize them and recite them to the class Pi Day Challenge Award Certificate x 2 Pi Day Word Challenge Sheet - How many words can you think of with "pi" in them?
This is a technique used to help students understand the concept of integers. Students must relate integers to a topic that they understand, money.
They must write a word problem that expresses the addition or subtraction problem, and then use that word problem to help them correctly solve the question.
This activity allows for differentiation.
There are two types of "Turkeys"
Fraction Turkeys: Students must cut out the turkey feathers and arrange the fraction feathers from least to greatest on the turkey.
Version A is more difficult than Version B.
Decimal Turkeys: Students must cut out the turkey feathers and arrange the decimal feathers from least to greatest on the turkey.
Version A is more difficult than Version B.
Students work through four scaffolded integer problems, two addition and two subtraction. They are asked guiding questions to help determine their answer. For example: "Are the signs the same or different?" or "Will your final answer be positive or negative?"
Great activity for differentiated instruction!
