Grade One Addition Strategies 1.OA.6

Students in grade one should work towards three strategies for addition: counting on, making ten, and using related facts. The models to support these understandings include number lines, double ten frames and coloring grids which align strongly with Math Practice #4 and #5. This series of six lessons introduces each strategy, includes modifications for struggling learners and “pushes” for higher level thinkers. It also concludes with student choice activities around the strategies.
