This project requires students to locate 26 items in the shape of circles, cylinders, cones or spheres. Items include those found in nature, clothing, gift wrap, quilts, household products, coins, buttons, logos, etc. Students then make a poster divided into sections with titles and objects then displayed. Teaching style

I prefer for students to work in pairs. Students have a warm up activity and a review of concepts taught in the unit so far, then are taught a lesson and work in pairs to solve the day's problems. Each student is responsible for a math notebook containing vocabulary, examples, formulas, drawings, definitions. Homework is typically a review and practice assignment to be completed within a couple of days. Students have my home phone number, and can receive tutoring before or after school.

Nominated for Teacher of the Year by Kansas Assoc. of Independent School in 2005, 2006. Winner of 2008 AMC 8 Edyth May Sliffe Award. Additional biographical information

Co-authored a set of 5 Math Fundamentals Study Guides, published by BarCharts, Inc. Developed Summer School math remedial and enrichment curriculum for two-week summer programs. Developed Middle School Math spreadsheet "scope and sequence of math concepts from grades 6 through 8". Developed a 100-page booklet entitled "Geometry for Middle School Students".
