Project: Complete a Math Interview
Student interviews adult about the math used each day at work or at home. Students work in groups to prepare interview questions, then interviews are scheduled. After each interview, student prepares a booklet showcasing how math is used by the interviewee. Alternate, supplemental, and culminating activities are listed, as well as a rubric.

Math Bulletin Board: Do You See the Math? It's Everywhere!
Use this bulletin board to enhance a class discussion on the applications of math properties! Students reinforce mechanics of writing by compiling a reflection of class discussion. Sample bulletin board, guided discussion questions, supplemental activities as well as a rubric are included.

Teaching style
I prefer for students to work in pairs. Students have a warm up activity and a review of concepts taught in the unit so far, then are taught a lesson and work in pairs to solve the day's problems. Each student is responsible for a math notebook containing vocabulary, examples, formulas, drawings, definitions. Homework is typically a review and practice assignment to be completed within a couple of days. Students have my home phone number, and can receive tutoring before or after school.
