This is an activity that I love to use on the first day of school, but it can also be inserted anywhere throughout your school year. It's perfect for an end of the year lesson. It would also work well in a gifted program or math club.
Students learn about the Mayan Number System and use cards with the Mayan number symbols to assemble two-digit and three digit numbers in base 20.
Get your classes thinking critically about place value, zero, number systems, and different bases!
