Students are asked to give a reason why each statistic is misleading. This accompanies Bluman's Elementary Statistic Book, section 1-6.
The worksheet has two pages, and answers are attached.
**There is a PowerPoint to accompany the worksheet for class discussion.
This file contains three different projects with solutions and a quick reference card for students. It correlates to Bluman's Elementary Statistics textbook.
First is an Introduction to Excel. There is an example, guided practice and then 4 Projects. The instructions are on each sheet. The topics covered are: basic editing and formatting, beginning charts, beginning formulas, such as SUM and AVERAGE, and calculations. There is an editable grading rubric for this project. This worksheet reviews sections 3-1 and 3-2 of Bluman's Elementary Statistics textbook. Students are asked to calculate Mean, Median, Mode and Midrange for sets of data. They are also asked to find the mean and modal class for grouped frequency distributions, and weighted means. There is one question regarding the distribution of data.
This bundle contains 6 PowerPoint presentations to accompany the pre-printed notes for Chapter 2 for Bluman's Elementary Statistics textbook. I used them as lecture slides. The examples and definitions are animated upon each click of the mouse.
The files contained are as follows:
0201-02 Organizing Data
0203 Histograms, Frequency Polygons, and Ogives
0204 Part 2 Pie Graphs
0204 Part 3 Stem and Leaf Graphs
0204 Part 4 Misleading Graphs and Summary
Plus a review presentation of a Review 2-1 th
This zip file contains 3 PowerPoint Presentations for Chapter 5 Discrete Probability Distributions from the text, Elementary Statistics by Bluman.
The presentations have click through animations, which allow the teacher to go through the examples step-by-step.
Sections covered are:
5-1 and 5-2 Introduction and Probability Distributions
5-3 Mean, Variance, Standard Deviation and Expectation
5-4 The Binomial Distribution
These PowerPoints can be used on their own, or to accompany the pre-printed
This zip folder contains 2 click animated PowerPoint Presentations and two Word files that contain fillable notes to go with those presentations. All the files are editable. They cover the material for sections 6-1 through 6-4 of Bluman's Elementary Statistics textbook. The objectives are:
- To identify properties of a normal distribution
- Find the area under the standard normal distribution, given various z values
- Find probabilities for normally distributed variables by converting them
This PowerPoint presentation is animated to go with the pre-printed notes sheet which is also available for sale. All of my Statistics lessons are made to accompany the Allan G. Bluman Book, ELEMENTARY STATISTICS.
Objective: To represent data in frequency distributions graphically using histograms, frequency polygons and ogives
This file contains six PowerPoint files to correspond with the Chapter 4 Notes bundle for Bluman's Elementary Statistics textbook. Each presentation has definitions and examples completed with click through animation in the slide show. If you would like to see how I used these, you can see video lessons on YouTube channel Flippin Cowan Statistics.
Some topics included are the Addition and Multiplication Rules, Combinations and Permuations, Conditional Probability, and counting rules.
This is an Excel activity for students that has them compute the standard deviation and determine which cities have the most consistent temperatures. There is a worksheet for Missouri, New York, and South Carolina. Each worksheet has three major cities and the average monthly temperature. There is also a completed project so that you can compare the formulas used. In the Missouri worksheet, students find standard deviation by using sums, and taking the square root of the variance. In the s
These PowerPoint presentations accompany my pre-printed notes from Bluman's Elementary Statistics Chapter 3. There is an extra presentation that gives the steps to using the TI83/84 for 1 variable analysis. Chapter 3 includes Measures of Central Tendency, Variation, and Position, as well as, Exploratory Data Analysis.
Notes contain PowerPoint animation upon mouse clicks. Thumbnails is from section 3-5.
This PowerPoint presentation is animated to go with the pre-printed notes sheet. All of my Statistics lessons are made to accompany the Allan G. Bluman Book, ELEMENTARY STATISTICS.
These sections are on the Nature of Statistics, and the two branches of Statistics, Descriptive and Inferential.

There is a group activity I made to go with this section.
This activity was created to help introduce students to normal data distributions. This file contains an Excel workbook with instructions (for both 2010 and 2013 versions of Excel) for students to do the following:
Find the Mean, standard deviation, median, mode, and the distribution of data within a certain number of standard deviations from the mean.
Create bar graph and line chart of frequencies.
Answer questions regarding data on separate Worksheet.
This activity is totally editable, so you
This accompanies the Misleading Statistics Worksheet for lesson 1-6 from Bluman's Statistic Text.
It could also be used on it's own to stimulate critical thinking and class discussion. The answers are set to appear upon 2nd click of slide.
This is a quick reference card I made for my Statistics course to help students with some of the basic formatting and formulas of Microsoft Excel as it relates to our projects.
This animated PowerPoint accompanies Allan Bluman's Elementary Statistics textbook. There is a pre-printed notes sheet to go along with the presentation.
Objective: To be able to identify the four basic sampling techniques
This is a quick puzzle that correlates to the vocabulary in Chapter 4 of Bluman's Elementary Statistics textbook. Answer Key is included. There following terms are used:
Probability
Experiment
Outcome
Simple Event
Compound Event
Tree Diagram
Complement
Mutually Exclusive
Independent Events
Permutation
Combination
Classical Probability
Empirical Probability
Subjective Probability
If you are teaching stats and incorporating spreadsheets, this might fit the bill for a fun activity for Halloween. The plus is it does have some educational value, as well as a fun Mystery Image sheet, as well. Students go to a website and read statistical information, then they create line graphs and answer questions in the first spreadsheet. In the second, they are just practicing their spreadsheet formatting skills by following step-by-step instructions to create an image. There are two

Objective: To organize data using frequency distributions
This Crossword Puzzle reviews the vocabulary for Chapter 2 of Bluman's Statistic Book. The terms are such as: Histogram, Frequency Distribution, Raw Data, Pareto Charts, etc.
**I was not happy with the way the numbers on the puzzle printed out. So, if you want to use it as it is, please consider downloading the adobe/.pdf version. I took a pen and went over the numbers so they would copy better.
