This is a great Math Class Ice Breaker or Get-to-know-you Activity! Fantastic for the first week of school! Students will decorate a piece of paper with facts about themselves, noting each fact mathematically. Young children can write the number that represents each fact and older children can put the numbers in equations. Actual photographs and pictures can be used as well as clip art, drawings or magazine cutouts. These posters can be displayed around the classroom or on a bulletin board!

Teaching style

My students have been most successful when they are provided with a notes outline that matches the notes on the teacher's board. As we discuss each day's lesson, the students fill in the information on their notes as the teacher does it on the board. After the mini lesson, students are given time to practice what they have learned in cooperative groups and partners. All lessons should be enabling and motivational to students by appealing to their interests in a real-life way! All of these notes can be accessed by students as a worksheet on paper or as a PDF on an iPad, tablet, laptop or computer.
