This is another simple puzzle for practicing make-ten combinations. Students circle combinations of numbers that add up to 10 and must strategize to use each number exactly once in their solution. This download includes several puzzles along with their solutions. The final puzzle is a good challenge for advanced students.

These are simple math puzzles for children in kindergarten and 1st grades. Children will practice their "make-ten" number combinations as they reason their way through the puzzles. The puzzles are also a good platform for class discussions about problem-solving strategies and mental-math strategies because they can be solved in different ways.

This is a problem-solving activity for students in grades K to 1. Students are asked to distribute 10 beans into pots according to different rules. The activity is good for group work because some of the problems have multiple solutions, and each student can share his/her own. As students work through the problems, they reason about odds/evens, equal sharing, etc.

These simple addition puzzles will give students in Kindergarten, first, and second grades practice with basic number combinations. Each line of numbers going down and across adds up to a given sum, and students use the numbers that are given to reason about the missing numbers. This download includes three puzzles with solutions.
