Quadratics Investigation

Once students know the relationship between a quadratic trinomial expression and its factors, they can gain a conceptual understanding of how those factors relate to the zeros of the parabola the expression graphs. I designed this activity to guide students in discovering the relationship between the factors and the zeros of a parabola, and to write their own rule in determining how to identify the zeros of a parabola when given only factors. The level of inquiry and guidance in this activity i

Graphing Quadratics from Vertex, Zeros, and Y-Int

Graphing Quadratics from Vertex, Zeros, and Y-Int This worksheet has students graph parabolas from given information. They must color-code the features of each graph to identify whether it is a vertex, zero, or y-intercept. Some graphs will not have zeros. A CHALLENGE section is included at the end for students to match four quadratic expressions with the graphs they produce. This section involves no directions on how to identify the correct graphs so students must think back to what they

Experience

I have taught math, English, and reading to 9th through 12th grade students for 15 years. I have taught students in Special Education, EL students, on-level and honors level, and now I focus on working with struggling learners, especially students with learning disabilities.

Teaching style

I like to use a variety of methods in the classroom in order to engage every student, including hands-on activities, foldables and INBs, PBLs, authentic math tasks, and inquiry/discovery lessons. Leaning should be engaging and meaningful for ALL students!
