About the store
I have been a math coach for 10 years and I am fortunate to work with students and teachers at every elementary grade level. After 20 years in education, I still have fun teaching and learning every day. Not only do I get to learn from my students, but from other teachers too. We should all have more experience in the classrooms of our co-workers! :)

Order of Operations Match Game: Pair word problems & expressions w/ parentheses

These order of operations match game cards have students pairing a simple expression using parentheses, with a simple context (third grade level). Why? This lets learners focus all of their mental energy on the reasoning. WHY are these numbers in parentheses instead of those? Do the parentheses always matter? Will the answer be the same without them? Introduce the order of operations rules purposefully in a fun way! I use these as a match game first. My students love when they don't have to us

Experience

I have been a math coach for 10 years and I am fortunate to work with students and teachers at every elementary grade level. After 20 years in education, I still have fun teaching and learning every day. Not only do I get to learn from my students, but from other teachers too. We should all have more experience in the classrooms of our co-workers! :)

Teaching style

I try to give as little information as necessary, and lead students to make their own connections through questioning. Ideally, I want to FIND or CREATE a reason for them to want or need to solve a problem, and then figure out how to solve it with as little interference from me as possible. I focus on the relationships in math. I want my students to develop number sense and reasoning and I believe we will get there if we focus on the BIG IDEAS... the most useful ways to take numbers apart and put them back together in different ways to suit our purposes at the time. And hopefully have a little fun doing it!

Awards & shining teacher moments

The honor of teaching future generations?? I finished third in a race once? And I estimated the number of jellybeans in the jar in sixth grade!

My own education history

B.S. Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey Master of Arts in Teaching, Elementary K-8, Monmouth University Mathematical Mindsets Course; Stanford University

Additional biographical information

I am ALL ABOUT THE MATH, but I still love writing and vocabulary! I am an avid Scrabble player and I have written a YA fiction novel. I have created all of my own teaching resources over the years and I can't seem to stop! Together, my husband and I have five children (and five jobs). Occasionally we eat and sleep. But not tonight.
