I have been working in public education for the past 10 years, first as an aide helping students in special education classes and for the past seven years as a junior high and high school math teacher.
This activity allows students to use some creativity to create and find the area of a polygon made of familiar shapes. Students will need to be able to calcuate the area of squares, rectangles, triangles, and trapezoids to complete this activity. Feel free to edit this document as you see fit. Hopefully your students will enjoy using their creative minds to design some very interesting polygons. Enjoy!

Experience
I have been working in public education for the past 10 years, first as an aide helping students in special education classes and for the past seven years as a junior high and high school math teacher.
Teaching style
I love to involve my students in the lessons I teach. I want them to use critical thinking skills to solve any type of problem I present them with. I love to ask how students solved a problem or why they approached it the way they did. I want them to grow to love math as much as I do.
My own education history
I have two Bachelor's degrees - one in Business Administration and one in Math Education.
Additional biographical information
I have been married for 22 years and have two daughters, a dog, and a cat. I love math and sports.
