Preview of Combining Integers Review

Combining Integers Review

This set of guided notes and practice seeks to simplify the process of adding and subtracting integers by thinking of the process as "combining integers" instead. Students like this way of adding and subtracting integers and it translates well to solving equations later when it's important to keep the sign with each term.

Problem Solving for Solving Algebraic Equations

Many of my PreAlgebra students had trouble solving multi-step equations. They solved using steps in the wrong order, or using the incorrect operations with each step. This resource seeks to address the issue that many students have with solving equations by focusing on the order of the steps that must be taken to solve the equation. Includes guided notes, a cut and paste activity, and an answer key.

Teaching style

I'm not a certified teacher. But as a special education assistant and a parent of a child with autism, over the years I have helped my son's teacher to create materials that are streamlined to reduce distractions. While some cute designs can be engaging for some students, others can find them distracting. While homeschooling my daughter for middle school, we found the best way forward with math was to avoid over complicating things. As a math teacher in a homeschool tutorial, I've found that kids enjoy engaging activities but are distracted when the designs are too busy. With these materials, I strive to remove the distractions while still engaging students.
