In the 4 real-world word problems, the student will: • Identify the slope and y-intercept•Explain what each represents • Write the equation in slope-intercept form. • Graph the equation To engage students, these word problems involve the price of a Peloton bike, the growth of a seed, the descent of a navy submarine, and the investment into a start-up business.
This is an outline of the research that my students conduct to apply the idea of misleading statistics and graphs. Students have to find their own examples of misleading statistics in the news, advertising, and in a courtroom.
