Examples and practice problems for developing the concepts of simplifying square roots of non-perfect square numbers and variables. Starts with list of perfect squares and then moves into simplifying non-perfect squares. Then students look at how to handle variables. Finally, numbers and variables are simplified together.

Students learn how to deal with radicals other than square roots by finding "perfects" with numbers, then simplifying non-perfects with numbers. Finally they work with variables in simplifying radicals. This file can be opened in an Interactive Whiteboard program. This could be broken down into two activities on two different days by doing numbers the first day and variables the second day. You could also use our Simplifying Roots Matching Cards as transition or warm up activities.

This is an introduction to graphing linear equations. It includes a brief review of plotting points in the coordinate plane. Then, examples of what are and are not linear equations are presented. Next, students check to see if given ordered pairs work in a linear equation and then they graph the points on the line of that equation to see it visually. Students are introduced to graphing linear equations by filling a t-chart, plotting the points and drawing the line through those points. Finally,

Students are given roots in rational, irrational and imaginary form and asked to find the quadratic function that has those roots as solutions.

Note and practice sheet for factoring out the GCF and then factoring either the difference of two squares, grouping or splitting the middle term in a trinomial.
