Geometry & Fractals Project - The Pentagonal Fractal Construction Process

Created by
MATHEOLOGICAL
This geometry fractal presentation is designed to show students how to construct a regular pentagonal fractal. The initial construction process shows how to work from "larger" to "smaller" to demonstrate the fractal self-similarity process, whereas the end of the presentation shows how to work from "smaller" to "larger" to demonstrate the same self-similarity process. This presentation also shows how to construct a 3-D pentagonal fractal (dodecahedron), which makes for a great project!

This product is useful in either the classroom or for distancing learning. Activities and related problems include: Triangle Sum Theorem, Interior/Exterior Angles, Vertical Angles, Remote Interior Angles, and more! There are activities and problems to be worked during the course of the presentation to ensure student understanding, and there are also extra practice problems (with detailed solutions) at the end of the presentation product.

Looking for a neat way to teach why the formula for the AREA OF A CIRCLE works? This presentation is a neat way to show your students a geometric approach for finding this famous formula that also incorporates fractional parts (fractions) of a circle! This presentation can be used in any K-12 math/geometry course as it applies to the standards or for a great review! Great tool for home school students!

This product is a real-world application that uses both Geometry and Dimensional Analysis to determine both the "amount" and the "cost" of the concrete required when pouring a driveway. Great visual graphics and solutions are included. There are also two extension problems (with solutions) that build from the original problem. This is a problem that goes more in-depth than your typical text book problems.

Can you/your students utilize some extra problems involving both PERIMETER and AREA involving triangles and various quadrilaterals? There are a total of 20 problems (found on pages 4-8 of this PowerPoint) involving at least one or more types of triangles, squares, rectangles, parallelograms, rhombi, kites, trapezoids, and non-special quadrilaterals. Detailed solutions are found on the last 5 pages of this presentation. The problems are structured so that students may have to figure out some mi

Experience

I have been a mathematics educator for 34+ years, having served 6 of those years as a System Mathematics Specialist and 28 of those years in the classroom. I am currently retired and loving it! I have also taught several different college/university level math courses throughout the years in night school and in summer school.

Teaching style

I believe that students should be taught mathematics conceptually, verbally, algebraically, geometrically, numerically, analytically, and technologically! All students learn differently, therefore, I strive to vary the ways that I present and teach various mathematical concepts.
