Students will be discussing the book Hatchet over a period of 1 month, throughout 4 literature circles. Students will be placed in groups of 5 at the beginning of the unit, and will remain with those groups until the end. For each circle, each student will be assigned a role, and they will rotate from one role to another throughout the course of the unit.

Students will complete this written response assessment on the effects of smoking and secondhand smoke. This assessment contains 2 short-answer questions and one extended response question.
Students will describe cyberbullying and how to prevent and handle it by creating an interactive animation using Scratch that includes at least 2 decision structures, 2 looping structures, 3 text boxes, and 3 thought/speech bubbles. This assessment is formative for the computers and society unit, and summative for the introduction to programming unit.
