I have taught math at the junior high level for the past 10 years.

I am a big fan of differentiated learning. When I first learned about this style of teaching in university, I immediately thought this would take too much time and would not be worth my while to differentiate my instruction. Within my first year of teaching, I realized how necessary this process was. The students I taught had mathematical skills ranging from grade 2 up to the grade level of grade 7. I spent the next 10 years of my career developing resources and adapting work so that all students could find success in my classroom.

Teaching was not the career path I had thought I would have chosen when I was younger. I had always imagined myself as a scientist developing cool robotic gadgets, or pursuing a career as an engineer. As fate would have it, I ended up getting nudged into the field of education and am I ever glad I did. I have found so much joy and encouragement working with students every day. Getting to be a part of their journey as they grow and learn will stay with me as long as I live.
