About the store

Experience

I have been teaching for almost 8 years now and have taught middle school and high school math. Most of my experience has been in Colorado, but I began my teaching career in the south.

Teaching style

I am all about experimental learning. I want my students to experience math, not just memorize it. My classroom is always busy, but organized and full of learning.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I have seen 100% of my students grow and advance. Last year, I had 81% of my students earn a proficient or advanced rating on the state standardize test with 0% fail. I have received the honor of being named Math Teacher of the Year in 2011 at my school.

My own education history

I have a bachelor's degree in Engineering, which allows me to actually answer the common question of "When will I ever use this in life?" I know all you fellow math nerds have heard these words in your own classrooms. During college, while teaching a business calculus course, I realized my love for sharing my knowledge. After college, I began teaching while earning my license and just completed my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus in Urban Learning and Teaching for English Language Learners.

Additional biographical information

I cannot get enough of working with young adults, so I volunteer as a mentor for a program working with students who are at risk for not graduating high school. Last May, I saw my first "mentee" walk at her graduation and sent her off to college in August. I also volunteer at a local animal shelter and enjoy spending the rest of my time with my husband and 2 kids.
