Roller Derby is a fun and simple game that is perfect for introducing students to probability. Flipping a coin, spinning a spinner, and many other activities are great for simple concepts of chance. However, rolling two dice? Students often struggle with developing ways to model and count all of the possibilities in probabilistic situations. The included resources offer an enjoyable method for doing just that. Included in this resource: Warm Up activity Mini-lesson on theoretical probabilityG

Experience
21 Years Public School Math Teacher, 1 Year Adjunct Professor, 5 Years Tutoring, and 14 years teaching as a Dad at home. I have additional teaching experience as a conversational English teacher in Japan (2 years), as well as trip leader with experience in outdoor education. In addition to my teaching, I have served as an academic coach and master teacher that worked to help other math teachers further develop their practice.
Teaching style
I subscribe to the “productive struggle” camp. The materials I develop, and the teaching I practice aims to meet students where they are, provide multiple pathways for student engagement, and promote the development of problem-solving abilities. While accuracy and precision in mathematics is absolutely important and something I love, I want to emphasize problem solving above answer getting. I strive to help students develop the skills they need to develop independence and grit.
