This is a fun beginning of the year activity. You can see what concepts your students have retained. Students cruise around the math islands (stations) and solve the various problems. You can use the smart board program that is included to signal (island music) when the students can move to the next island (station). Students will be asked to solve problems pertaining to measurement, problem solving, patterns, numbers and operations, basic math, algebra, and geometry. Students should fill out

DIRECTIONS: Students rotate around room in cooperative groups to six different stations. Each station has a puzzle the students put together. Each puzzle has to do with a movie title. Once the puzzle is together the students can flip over the pieces to solve the two problems about that particular movie on the back. IF YOUR STUDENTS LOVE POKEMON GO THEY WILL LOVE “MATH GO”. THIS IS A SMART BOARD PROGRAM WHERE STUDENTS CAN WORK AT THEIR OWN PACE. THE STUDENTS SOLVE A VARIETY OF MATH PROBLEMS (CONVERTING MEASUREMENT, WORD PROBLEMS, AND UNDERSTANDING MATH NUMBERS). THE STUDENTS CHOOSE FROM THREE ANSWERS. IF THEY TAP ON THE CORRECT ANSWER THEY WILL BE SENT TO A SCREEN WHERE THEY CAPTURE A “MATH GO” CHARACTER. IF THEY TAP ON A WRONG ANSWER THEY WILL BE TOLD THEY ARE WRONG AND SENT BACK TO THE QUESTION AGAIN

The Peer Practice (Reciprocal Learning) Strategy will help increase student involvement and keep students actively involved. Two students form a learning partnership committed to helping each other reach a particular learning goal. One student will be Student A and the other will be Student B. PLACE THE TEN PROBLEMS AROUND THE ROOM. THE STUDENTS WILL MOVE AROUND THE ROOM TO SOLVE EACH PROBLEM. THEY WILL PLACE THEIR ANSWER ON THE ANSWER SHEET. THE STUDENTS CHOOSE FROM THREE ANSWERS. IF THEY CHOOSE THE CORRECT ANSWER THEY WILL BE GIVEN A “MATH GO” CHARACTER.
