This presents an excellent opportunity to practise measuring which is such an important but sometimes neglected part of teaching measures. Also, we obtain relevant data that can then be used back in the classroom.

Experience

Taught from ages 5 to 18 although most experience between 9 and 13.

Teaching style

Lessons have to be engaging and fun within a classroom environment which celebrates mistakes (because then I can see what they and others are thinking!) and encourages pupils to make conjectures and pursue these. It is also vitally important that teachers learn something from every lesson about pupils' learning, misconceptions or difficulties so that we can reflect and make pupils' experiences richer and increase both their understanding and enjoyment of mathematics.
