This is an engaging full lesson for combining like terms (simplifying expressions) that involves candy to help students learn the concept. In the task students use starbursts and skittles to explore the concept of combining like terms. The notes part gives students the opportunity to solidify the concept using algebraic expressions. Students practice writing and evaluating simple algebraic expressions and then simplifying expressions using order of operations. An "order of operations triangle" is given as a visual for seeing just four levels in the order that we do operations (since multiply and divide are on the same level and add and subtract are on the same level). This document is left as a word document so you can edit whatever you need to.

Through the use of this PowerPoint lesson, students will see how to divide positive and negative fractions. The PowerPoint includes three animated problems and two more for students to try on their own and check. This lesson also includes problems containing mixed numbers and whole numbers.
