This can be used with ALL SUBJECTS AND GRADES! I have been using this homework chart for a month now and the students love it. It puts the responsibility of their homework grade on them. It teaches them time management, in that they have a week to complete their homework, and it allows them to work on assignments that are at their level. They need to complete 4 in a row, like Connect 4. I have the chart set up for what I do with my students, but it can be modified up or down (grade level wise) o

Scientific notation is can be very confusing to students. They confuse the positive and negative exponents and when to use them. I have found that by teaching the students to find the old decimal point, label where the new one should go, and count from new to old, it forces them to move in the positive or negative direction, making the sign of the exponent much easier for them to figure out!

Before I move on to percents, order of operations, or even ordering numbers, I like to revisit equivalent rational numbers. I want to make sure that they are comfortable changing numbers into different, equivalent forms.

Helping students to classify the difference between rational and irrational numbers.

A small review lesson on absolute value.

This lesson can span over 2 days. I review rates, unit rates, ratios and proportions, then spend the next day dealing with percents. I teach the students not only to use proportions when solving percent problems, but also to use equations, because as percent problems become more complex, it is easier to use equations then it is to use proportions.

Estimation is an important skill that needs to be reviewed no matter the age.

Each student is given a credit card with a limit- I chose $500. They are "charged" for different things- such as missing homework, leaving the room etc. They are also given a savings account- I chose to give them $700. They can also earn money for positive actions such as: helping others etc. Charges and earning can be changed and modified depending on your class. Then once they get used to it, I introduce purchases that can be made. The students really enjoy it.

Taking numbers in different forms and order them from least to greatest.

Good for all subject areas. Here, students are given a list of assignments that have a certain point value. They are responsible in making sure that their homework adds up to 100 points at the end of the week. Again, point values and assignments can (and will) vary, but this is how I set mine up for my classes.
