About the store

Experience

I have taught 7th and 8th grade mathematics for 5 years. Prior to that I substitute taught for 1 year. Additionally, while attending college, I tutored high school and college level mathematics and I instructed high school marching band for 4 years.

Teaching style

In the classroom, I run a structured, student-centered classroom that promotes positive learning experiences for all students. I have high expectations for every student, and I firmly believe that every student is capable of succeeding in math to the highest level. The brain is like a muscle that can be exercised and strengthened; thus, it is my intention to help students exercise their brain daily. Not only is math used everywhere and everyday, but also math is a tool we use to learn how to communicate, collaborate, think critically, and problem solve. I hope that students can learn these skills in an enjoyable, memorable way! . My approach goes beyond rote memorization of formulas and following rigid steps. Instead, I aim to guide students to independently tackle problems and guide group discussions to highlight successful strategies. As a facilitator in my students’ learning, I actively engage students in mathematics through the integration of technology and real-world applications while maintaining high expectations for every student.

My own education history

I graduated from Grand Valley State University in Michigan with a degree in secondary math education and music education.
