This is a great activity to get students to apply their knowledge of parabolas to real-world scenarios. Students will graph, interpret, and answer questions based on a given equation showing the trajectory of a soccer ball in regard to the ball's height off of the ground and time spent in the air. An 'Extension' question is utilized for students to explore Desmos.com/graphing calculators in order to problem-solve.

This is a great activity to show real-world application of area and perimeter in the world of sports. Students will use their knowledge of area and perimeter to fence and turf a baseball field; they will then use those calculations to find necessary materials on the internet and price out the job. There are also a couple of 'Extension' questions to challenge students regarding Pythagorean Theorem and the effect that scaling the field down to softball dimensions has on their calculations.
