Hi! My name is Megan O'Donovan.
I have taught high school science for two years. I've taught a little bit of everything -- biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, engineering, you name it!
This series of three activities is designed to help students build their skills in NGSS Practice 4: Analyzing and Interpreting Data. In the first activity, students look at how the way data is presented can affect the conclusions that can be made from it. In the second activity, students look at an example set of ambiguous data, and discuss how the variability in the data affects their ability to draw a conclusion. In the final activity, students analyze a data set, including making a graph and

Teaching style
I do my best to teach the way the Next Generation Science Standards were intended: with a phenomenon anchoring every unit, and as much student-led inquiry as possible. For any concept, I try to avoid using lectures or textbook readings, and instead try to think of a way students could figure out the idea themselves from data or observations.
My own education history
I attended K-12 school in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. I completed my undergraduate education at Michigan State University, getting Bachelor's degrees in Genetics and Psychology before switching to teaching. I did my student teaching in the Lansing, MI area and am certified in Biology and Integrated Science. I am now working on a Master's degree in Teaching and Curriculum, and am applying for doctoral programs for next fall.
