About the store
I started out teaching alternative special education to 6th graders in 1997. In 1998, I wanted to teach science because it is my passion and moved to an alternative high school where I taught all sciences from grades 9-12 to people ages 16-22. When funding was no longer available and our school was shut down 6 years later, I moved to a junior high school in the area. Many of my former students said their hate for school started there and I wanted to be able to help them along instead of seeing them drop out...that was 8 years ago. I still work with at-risk students trying to help them value and desire an education and imparting them with knowledge that will help them become life long learners.
I have training in many different areas and serve as a new teacher mentor, state assessor, and still to this day take classes to help me better my professional life.

What is a watershed? Hands on activity
I took this actual activity from 3 different sources. One was set for a demonstration, two were set for kids to do - one had one step and one had 2 steps.
To extend what was there, I took what was just the activity and changed into a hands on with questions and a map added to it and put it in student friendly written instructions instead of verbal instructions.

Popcorn Resources - A nonrenewable and renewable resources hands-on activity
This activity is adapted from a couple of different things I found online and condensed to get the activity adapted to my needs. The questions, graphs, and data tables are things that I wrote so that it is tailored to the needs of my students for my lesson. My Idea of Perfect - Biomes Introduction Writing activity
i used a project similar to this when I started teaching years ago where I had students design a biome or as I told them, their perfect place to live. I used it to introduce biomes because it has them thinking about climate, landforms, plant and animal adaptations, location, and human needs. Human Skeleton Diagram to Label (middle school)
This is a picture of the human skeleton I had years back that I took and photo shopped for students to be able to label in a quiz.
I did not draw the skeleton, but did get rid of the words and put new arrows and lines in to allow students to label the bones.
It came in very handy and I used it all of my middle school teaching years after.

Nutrient Cycles Project - Part 1
This is the directions sheet for a project on water, carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, and oxygen. There are several small projects that students complete in order to meet their goal score for a test grade. I used this and it worked well with my students. I have 9th grade to 12th grade. I have all inclusion students and some higher students as well.

Skeletal System Powerpoint
This power point is used with 7th graders as notes for the major points of the skeletal system. It restates the ideas we have discussed in class as well as expanding on some of these concepts. Penny Probability for Genetics
This is a old school activity that I typed up to fit the needs of my students. It is short and to the point and very easy to help students understand. Students flip pennies to study the concept.
Materials are 2 pennies per groups and worksheet. It is very cost effective as well. It could also be used in mathematics as well to show how probability works.

IS IT ALIVE? Characteristics of life lab
This is an introductory inquiry lab where students learn about the characteristics of life. They get a mystery substance and have to use their experiences and observations to deduce if the mystery substance is alive.
I used it with seventh graders and it is geared toward upper elementary and middle school students.
There are pre-lab and post-lab questions along with the experiment itself.

Penny Drop Lab
I used this lab with my 9th grade Phys Sc class while teaching the scientific method. I looked at several different penny labs that were all similar and tweaked this to my classroom needs. I want them to be able to determine their own variables so I changed it from which side of a penny holds more water as just about every premade I looked at to this. Lab Report Template
This is a lab report template I made for my 9th grade physical science class. I use this when I teach the scientific method and several other times to refresh their memory. I do not do this for every single lab and as we go on, they eventually make lab reports on their own based on what they have done on my format sheet. Wetlands Goods and Services Project
I created this project to be a supplement to the iCEV ducks unlimited curriculum for wetlands ecology. Kingdom of Life Booklet directions and rubric
This assignment has been used with a 9th grade integrated science class. The students in here are mostly lower level and special needs. I use it as a culminating activity after doing an overview of the 6 kingdoms at the conclusion of my classification unit.
I have done a very similar project with my 7th graders when I taught them and it worked out very well.
You may need to edit the font to make it work out because when it generated the thumbnails it looks like it is a little off.

Famous Scientist Research Worksheet

Erosion Experience Lab
This lab is a lab that we did with a group of students at a wetlands experience camp. I worked doing wetlands camp for 2 years and also do a program that is geared at fun learning at the local library. This is one of the labs that we did. The kids loved it.

Intro to Energy Flow in Ecosystems (food chains, food webs, & energy pyramids)

Biomes Challenge Crossword puzzle
I created this puzzle to aid my students in studying the main points we discussed in class the lecture. I used it as an elected homework assignment. Introduction to Environmental Science (Examview Test Bank)

I like my classroom to be a safe place where students can succeed and express themselves as they take home positive learning experiences. I am not a dictator in my class. I like to facilitate and let the children learn by doing.

My own education history
I received my BS in education from Nicholls State University in 1997. I have a concentration in Biology with my minor being General Science. I have since taken many many graduate classes for "fun" as well as to increase acheivement with my students.
Additional biographical information
I am finally going back to complete my masters degree. I have enough hours to have my plus 30 plus some, but nothing that goes together for a degree. I apparently just like going to school!
