About the store
I started out teaching alternative special education to 6th graders in 1997. In 1998, I wanted to teach science because it is my passion and moved to an alternative high school where I taught all sciences from grades 9-12 to people ages 16-22. When funding was no longer available and our school was shut down 6 years later, I moved to a junior high school in the area. Many of my former students said their hate for school started there and I wanted to be able to help them along instead of seeing them drop out...that was 8 years ago. I still work with at-risk students trying to help them value and desire an education and imparting them with knowledge that will help them become life long learners. I have training in many different areas and serve as a new teacher mentor, state assessor, and still to this day take classes to help me better my professional life. I have also been trained through the following programs: LASIP - 3 years LAgearup ABC Connections - 2 years Math Tips Intech - 2 years La State Assessor Trained LA State Mentor Trained

What is a watershed? Hands on activity

I took this actual activity from 3 different sources. One was set for a demonstration, two were set for kids to do - one had one step and one had 2 steps. To extend what was there, I took what was just the activity and changed into a hands on with questions and a map added to it and put it in student friendly written instructions instead of verbal instructions. I am using this in an environmental science class that has freshmen to seniors. It is a very simple and cheap activity that really i

This activity is adapted from a couple of different things I found online and condensed to get the activity adapted to my needs. The questions, graphs, and data tables are things that I wrote so that it is tailored to the needs of my students for my lesson. It worked really well when we went to discuss what they learned in comparison to the theory we discussed in class. I included notes on how I did the activity in my class and how I did this in my classroom. I teach 9-12 with a larger freshman

i used a project similar to this when I started teaching years ago where I had students design a biome or as I told them, their perfect place to live. I used it to introduce biomes because it has them thinking about climate, landforms, plant and animal adaptations, location, and human needs. When we finish the unit, I have them take their initial assignment back and try to fit it as closely into one specific biome and they compare the two to see if their ideal place would exist (I have never had

This is a picture of the human skeleton I had years back that I took and photo shopped for students to be able to label in a quiz. I did not draw the skeleton, but did get rid of the words and put new arrows and lines in to allow students to label the bones. It came in very handy and I used it all of my middle school teaching years after. It may be a little too elementary for high schoolers, but could be a good review for them on the basics. I do not have a key with it but it is so basic tha

This is the directions sheet for a project on water, carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, and oxygen. There are several small projects that students complete in order to meet their goal score for a test grade. I used this and it worked well with my students. I have 9th grade to 12th grade. I have all inclusion students and some higher students as well. Part 2 is the scoring rubrics for each part. I cut the price I would have charged for the entire project in half because I could not upload it in one

This power point is used with 7th graders as notes for the major points of the skeletal system. I do an anticipation guide as a pre-test and self post assessment, a bone lab that allows them to see parts of the bone (spongy bone, periosteum, compact bone, marrow, muscle attachment, ect) with a chicken wing, and follow it up with my unit culmination (a jigsaw on body systems that the students make and present to their peers). I use this with regular and special education students, but it can be m

I created this webquest as an enrichment for my students to aid them in comprehending their notes and the work we are doing in class. It restates the ideas we have discussed in class as well as expanding on some of these concepts. I searched the websites and wrote the questions from each site myself, so I can attest to the answers being on that site. The answers on the key, however, are largely the result of me copying and pasting the answers (after all the answers should come from the website t

This is a old school activity that I typed up to fit the needs of my students. It is short and to the point and very easy to help students understand. Students flip pennies to study the concept. Materials are 2 pennies per groups and worksheet. It is very cost effective as well. It could also be used in mathematics as well to show how probability works.

IS IT ALIVE? Characteristics of life lab

This is an introductory inquiry lab where students learn about the characteristics of life. They get a mystery substance and have to use their experiences and observations to deduce if the mystery substance is alive. I used it with seventh graders and it is geared toward upper elementary and middle school students. There are pre-lab and post-lab questions along with the experiment itself.

I used this lab with my 9th grade Phys Sc class while teaching the scientific method. I looked at several different penny labs that were all similar and tweaked this to my classroom needs. I want them to be able to determine their own variables so I changed it from which side of a penny holds more water as just about every premade I looked at to this. They use my lab template to complete a full lab report where they identify each part of the scientific method. It is simple enough for middle sc

This is a lab report template I made for my 9th grade physical science class. I use this when I teach the scientific method and several other times to refresh their memory. I do not do this for every single lab and as we go on, they eventually make lab reports on their own based on what they have done on my format sheet. This file is in a picture format but when you print it portrait, it will work in class. If you want to change something on it, you will have to use a graphics altering progra

I created this project to be a supplement to the iCEV ducks unlimited curriculum for wetlands ecology. My students needed more assessment of material than I was giving them so I started creating more projects and teacher made tests to use in addition to the given curriculum. This is a fairly high level piece and is focused on South LA. It is editable so you can easily adapt it to fit your classroom needs. I gave all three parts separate, but put them on one easy document for you. It can be edit

This assignment has been used with a 9th grade integrated science class. The students in here are mostly lower level and special needs. I use it as a culminating activity after doing an overview of the 6 kingdoms at the conclusion of my classification unit. I have done a very similar project with my 7th graders when I taught them and it worked out very well. You may need to edit the font to make it work out because when it generated the thumbnails it looks like it is a little off.

This was created when I started teaching middle school to introduce them to the library. Each core teacher took their kids to the library once a month and had to create an information resources lesson for their kids. This is a very short and concise sheet on a famous scientist. They complete simple research to get information about a scientist of my choosing. I did not include a list of scientists but one could easily be obtained through google if you do not have enough. I took what we did and put it into a formal format so I could use it with my students in environmental science. These students range from 9th -12th grade. Teaching style

I like my classroom to be a safe place where students can succeed and express themselves as they take home positive learning experiences. I am not a dictator in my class. I like to facilitate and let the children learn by doing.
