Students will "inherit" a million dollars. They will be required to spend their money on 10 specific items. Each item is listed at the top of every slide. Hidden Figures Mini Project- Area and Perimeter
This is a fun, end-of-the-year project that allows students to show off their creativity. After watching the movie Hidden Figures, students will work in groups to build their own one dimensional rocket ship. The main focus is on area but you could also do perimeter. Note: there are two different sets of directions. One includes finding the percentages for each color used. The other one does not.

Teaching style
I make sure to build strong, positive relationships with my students and encourage them to make mistakes. Why? Since teaching 6th grade, I have realized that many of my students have hated math for one reason or another. They will never learn anything from me unless they feel comfortable. If they are afraid to make mistakes or make me mad, they will never try. If they make mistakes, they can see how they solved it and how to fix it. If they fix it, they are self correcting. They are learning and growing.
