In this hands-on activity, students create 3-dimensional models using nets. Students are required to identify the type of prism (cube, rectangular, triangular) and find the surface area of the prism using the net. There are 8 nets included in this activity (3 cubes, 3 rectangular prisms, and 2 triangular prisms). This activity does a great job targeting CCSS 6 GA 4. Student worksheet and answer key is included.

This Jeopardy game is a great way to review for a unit test or prepare for standardized testing. Many of the questions are modeled after the PARCC practice test. Categories include: "Area of Triangles & Quadrilaterals," "Area of Irregular Shapes," "Volume of Rectangular Prisms," "How Many Unit Cubes Can Fit," "Polygons on the Coordinate Plane," and "Nets & Surface Area."

This activity gives students the opportunity to look at real world examples of inequalities. There are 12 stations. At each station students write a sentence, in their own words, about what the picture/sign is suggesting. Students then translate their sentence into a mathematical inequality.

This worksheet gives students an opportunity to practice reflecting points and shapes over the x and y axis. Students explore that a reflection has on the impact on x and y values of a point. There are 20 problems on reflecting points and 4 problems on reflecting triangles.

In this mini-project, students use use centimeter grid paper to draw scaled representations of the following: Eiffel Tower, Washington Monument, White House, Willis Tower, Gateway Arch, Pyramid of Giza, Titanic, and Niagara Falls. Actual measurements for each object are given in meters. Students use a scale of 40 meters : 1 cm. The finished project allows students to make comparisons between the monuments/objects.

This Jeopardy game is a fun way to review at the end of a unit on percents. It could also be used for standardized test preparation. This worksheet gives students the opportunity to practice finding volume of right rectangular prisms with fractional edge lengths. (8 problems) Students also practice finding the number of unit cubes that can fit inside of a right rectangular prism with fractional edge lengths. (6 problems). These problems are modeled after the problem on the PARCC practice test for 6th grade math.

This "lab" consists of 10 stations. Students rotate from station to station and find the surface area of a 3-dimensional shape given its net. The nets include 2 cubes, 3 rectangular prisms, 3 square pyramids, 2 triangular prisms. When I do this activity, I will build the 3-d model of each shape. When students arrive at a station, they can use both the net and the 3-d model to determine the surface area.

This challenging puzzle consists of 24 triangles that must be placed together correctly to create a hexagon. Fractions that "touch" one another must have the same value. A fraction that is not simplified must be paired with its equivalent in simplest form. This is a great enrichment tool that can make simplifying fractions fun.
