About the store
I have taught 7th-9th grade since 2016 so I'm wrapping up my 9th year of teaching. I mainly teach Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 (Math 1). I also help with math intervention in building number sense fluency so I do work with 5th and 6th grade some as well. I have also presented at professional development conferences regarding the importance of vertical alignment and scaffolding in the classroom.

Whimsical Gen Z Class Rules

I wanted to create some fun rules using Gen Z lingo while also making it pretty to match my floral farmhouse middle school classroom. Each one has a different floral arrangement in a corner. The 6 rules: 1. Not a group chat, fam. One mic at a time. (Don't talk over each other.) 2. Positive vibes only. Yeet the rest. (Have a good attitude/no drama.) 3. Mid effort? Hbu give main character energy. (Don't slack, do your best.) 4. Being prepped is straight fire, fr. (Be prepared.) 5. Hey yo, flex kin

About the store

Experience

I have taught 7th-9th grade since 2016 so I'm wrapping up my 9th year of teaching. I mainly teach Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 (Math 1). I also help with math intervention in building number sense fluency so I do work with 5th and 6th grade some as well. I have also presented at professional development conferences regarding the importance of vertical alignment and scaffolding in the classroom.

Teaching style

I do a lot of whole group modeling, but I make time for independent and small group practice as well. I regularly embed prior knowledge skills and strategies as access points to grade level content. The more strategies they have access to, the more likely they are to grow and feel confident in their math abilities.

My own education history

I have a music education degree from a liberal arts college in Nashville, TN, but ended up going back to school a few years later to get my math education degree for middle grades from North Carolina State University.

Additional biographical information

I am from North Carolina originally. We have two pets -- a pudgy middle-aged shorthaired tuxedo and a devious, needy 1.5 year old beagle mix who looks like an overgrown dachshund. We are also finally getting married this summer!! We've known each other since 2010 and been together since 2018.
