This is a worksheet that assesses students' mastery of Common Core Poetry skills for 6th and 7th Grade using the poem "Theme for English B" by Langston Hughes. It assesses: internal and external rhyme, identifying rhyme scheme, main idea, theme, interpreting similes and metaphors, meter, and identifying stanza and lines within a poem.

I created this worksheet as a more 'fun' assessment at the end of the year to assess the most important things that we covered with informational texts. It covers: central idea (with supporting quotes), author's purpose (with supporting quotes), using context clues to identify new words, and denotation, connotation. I picked out a bunch of fun real newspaper articles - their favorites being about zombie genes and potential supernatural activity. Then, I asked students to answer these questions
