An activity for students to discuss how unicellular and multicellular organisms deal with getting the materials they need. In part 1, students are unicellular and have to do all the work alone, as a single celled living thing would. Part 2, where students work in a team of 4-5 students, the team represents a multicellular organism, that has specific cells to do different jobs. The discussion can include topics on: homeostasis, uni/multi cellular differences, cell processes.
Cells have many jobs that could be compared to activities that happen within a town or city. Students can work in pairs or alone to match the jobs of cell organelles to related needs within a city.
