Experience

I teach 6th Grade Math at a Title I school in Virginia. I have experience with teaching a wide range of levels, including ESOL newcomers, students with SPED accommodations, and gifted students. I have worked extensively on developing 6th, 7th, and 8th grade math curriculum in Virginia.

Teaching style

For the past 5 years, I have been on a journey to move from teacher-led, rote procedural practice to rich student-centered explorations. My teaching style prioritizes vocabulary instruction, experience with concepts before learning formal algorithms, growth mindset, and rich mathematical discourse.

My own education history

After working at an engineering firm for several years, I decided to make a career change to become a teacher. I earned a Masters of Arts in Teaching (MAT) from Mary Baldwin College.
