For beginners in watercolor. This is fun and totally wonderful for all ages. You'll love the way the students improvise and create their own cityscape. The basic point of this lesson is to leave the paper dry and bone white, almost in a checkered board fashion, to create light and dark. It's got rhymic motion and be sure to play some good jazz as they paint, to enhance the mood. Thumbnail sketches are quick, abbreviated drawings. Usually, they are done very rapidly and with no corrections - you can use any medium, though pen or pencil. Focus is on Botanicals. Start by going outdoors to a garden and pencil the ideas. Watercolor them in the classroom.

It's a nice way to give them their private time also. It will give them more skill in the ability of self control on this medium that will transfer to acrylic and oils also. You can let them focus on light and shadow without concern for color, design and composition.

Using a live iris is always good along with this lesson plan, should create some very contented students with their results. I have been very successful with mine. It describes how so much creative excellence comes for the tip of the brush.

A method of planning for white paper. In traditional Winslow Homer type watercolor, the white paint is not to be used. Rather we rely on the white value of the paper. This help sheet explains some ways to have brilliant whites working to the benefit of the composition.

Useful during Valentines Day or just as an introduction to watercolor. I've allowed an opportunity to break down and understand the definitions of watercolor along with a composition that will encourage the exploration of the medium.

Experience

Teaching style

I'm a believer in teaching art, not standing passively waiting for the child to entertain me. I am not their cheerleader. I want them to learn the traditional disciples of art that have been used by the artists of the past. It's important to let them know what they are capible of doing. If you allow them the freedom to work within a structured outline or lesson, they will find learning enjoyable and no where near that drudge of work. Work becomes joy.
