This download was created for a general morning check in for each student. This is intended to be used in the morning before school begins, and as a constant check in (not only once). I collect these and base my lesson plans around my students interests. These forms also allow students to express any concerns they may not feel comfortable sharing out loud.

Independent practice, following previous days of instruction. This handout could be used on any day, but is most beneficial AFTER the students have been taught the stoplight paragraph method of writing. Students are encouraged to use sentence starters to begin each section. Come up with ideas on all ends of the spectrum because opinions vary!

As students get comfortable writing in complete sentences with correct structure, this resource gives an opportunity for more independence in their writing. Students will respond to the question using all three parts of a paragraph: topic, supporting, and closing.

Work with students to identify their opinion and why. The download includes a starter sentence for the topic and two spots to include their reasons. Green = topic, means go! Yellow = supporting, show why Red = start stopping, restate.
