Where am I? Describing settings
This is a quick Google Earth activity that takes your students on a trip around the world. Once they get to their destination, they have to describe where they are at. What do they see there? What might they smell there? What sounds would they hear there? This is a great way to introduce setting to your class!

Experience
I have been teaching 6th grade for four years, and I absolutely love it! My subject areas include science and social studies, and I am also currently the alternative education teacher for our campus, which means I teach all four core subjects daily.
Teaching style
I enjoy teaching in a student-centered classroom. I rarely lecture or give notes - I love watching my students learn by researching, experimenting, and having hands-on experiences with labs, webquests, projects and crafts.

Additional biographical information
I'm late to the teaching profession, but I feel like my life experiences have given me an advantage in the classroom. Before getting my teaching certification, I worked with an insurance company to set up communications and develop experimental projects for roof inspections after catastrophic weather events. After that, I worked as an investigator, specializing in narcotics and family violence. I also taught a kindergarten Sunday school class for 12 years, and traveled the world with my friends. Who knows what I'll end up getting into next!
