The Pyramid - Rhythmic Warmup and Pattern Progression

The Pyramid is a sequence of rhythmic exercises comprised of a check pattern and 16th note variations designed to increase dexterity and rhythmic comprehension. It is designed for beginning hand drum students (the lower note being the bass tone and the higher notes the open/edge tone of a conga, djembe, ashiko, etc.), but could easily be adapted to any drum setup. Passport to Writing is intended to be used as an introductory writing workshop with JH/HS students as a way to gain a qualitative assessment of their writing proficiency, use of outlines, and pre-writing/planning ability. It was originally designed as a 70-minute class with new students. There are a wide variety of ways in which the lesson plan and packet content can be modified for different situations and different needs.
