Students have creative license in designing a multi-layered person that shows all the systems in the human body. Each page includes a drawing of all parts/organs of the system, a summary of the function of the system, and a title at the top. We do this at the end of each body system and by the end of the year students have a complete summary of all human system.
This a simple but effective way to teach and give students practice writing hypotheses. It includes identifying controls, independent and dependent variables. This short worksheet is a must before teaching/starting labs!
Students research the spinal nerves that service various regions of the body. Student draw and construct the vertebral column as a class and use yarn to show spinal nerves and what they service. A great class collaborative project.
This is a fun review activity of anatomical terms, directions, and plane.
The organization of the body and structural relationships among the parts can be described with anatomical terminology. You will be given a large potato, toothpicks, and tape. Your task will be to label the following list of anatomical terms on your spud. To do this you will use toothpicks and masking tape as a “flag” for each label.
This is a GREAT way to introduce and reinforce the characteristics of living things. Students in a biology class are active participants in the quiz and the lesson always is fun!
This works really well. Youtube "Your Magic Doctor" and view the movie with your students. Once they have seen this film have them create their own analogy of the immune system and present them to the class. This is fun and effective.
