Create a pictograph with the following winter games: snowboarding, skiing, speed skating, figure skating, hockey, and bobsledding. Choose from 6 different keys for added challenges. Two levels of questions; 10 straight forward and easier, and 10 more difficult (requiring the student to add and subtract). I developed this for my second graders, but by changing out the key this could also work for into to pictographs for 1st grade or review for 3rd grade.

Solve each train car’s word problem. Find the correct candy piece and place it with the car. Decide whether you added, subtracted, or both to find your answer. Place the car behind the corresponding train engine. Record your answers. This train set is similar to the Christmas Word Problem Train, BUT there are different addends, minuends, and subtrahends.

Skip counting by 5s, 6s, and 7s. Christmas candy number strings. Find the correct candies to complete the skip counting number lines. Record your answers. For an added challenge indicate what number would come before your first piece of candy and what number would come after your last piece of candy.

60 eggs (100's place value) to choose from. Choose either to order the eggs from greatest to least or least to greatest. Alternate assignment: Choose 10 eggs and record their information in standard form, expanded form, +-1, +-10, +-100. Record sheet included for each assignment.
