I taught ESL to preschoolers in Japan for 7 years, during the last few years, I was a head teacher making curriculum's and assisted in running a private international school. My experience is hands on and into the frying pan. I prefer to be honest, but if my children were reading, writing, etc. by 3 years old, I don't think I was doing a bad job.

I was very a affectionate kind of teacher, teaching them through trust and understanding. Through patience, I would get through to all my students by understanding their home life and personal character. My style was on the spot and improving lessons to suit them and creating worksheets and crafts on the go, not instantly of course, I did have a set plan for each month and played it by ear...

A student once gave me a recorded message card that had the phrase "I love you, Khanh teacher!" on it, to me that is a reward...:)

My name is Kay Ong and I have been teaching kindergarten/preschool in Japan for about 7 years. I currently live in Manhattan pursuing other plans. But my experience with children is not something I want to just throw away. I spent much of my time with young learners and making curriculum's for schools. I hope that my materials and services can be of use to parents or schools who are teaching their young children. Even though my work is more focused in ESL, it is still good for students who are new learners to reading, writing, etc. I center my work around the idea, "Do it with your child..." spend time with them...just a little bit a day can go a long way.

All I want to add is, please let me know if there is any typos or mistakes on anything I write or create! Teaching preschoolers for so many years kind of destroyed my vocabulary if you can relate...
