I have a BA in French and Early Child Development as well as a M.Ed in French. I worked for TAPIF in France and lived in Provence for 2 years. I then started teaching high school French levels 1 - AP, honors and college placement in 2012. I have 3 years experience as department head. I currently teach Middle School grades 6-8.

This bundle includes 6 different chat mats to use in French classes. Chat mats encourage students to stay in the target language by providing them with the necessary expressions. It also encourages more variety by reminding them of what they can say. By using these mats repeatedly throughout the year, the students become comfortable with them and need to look at them less and less.

This worksheet has every line of Prevert's poem Dejeuner du Matin and instructions for students to write their own similar line. In the end students have their own version of the poem. Included is an example poem. I use this activity after learning the poem through a CI method, looking at the poem visually and repeating the lines. I also have the slideshow available for this lesson.

This bundle includes my full lesson on Dejeuner du Matin that practices the passe compose in French. I start with the slideshow, reviewing the poem orally with a CI approach. There is also a slide that I use to ask students to logically match the start and end of different lines in the poem. There is also a slide with only pictures that requires students to retell the poem. Then I use the worksheet to have students write their own poem.

This is a presentation with the lines from Prevert's poem, Dejeuner du Matin. It has images to help students visualize the vocabulary and allows for the teacher to teach the poem using a CI method. There is then a slide with just the verbs in the passe compose that students have to match with the ends of the lines. The last slide has only the images and students have to try to repeat the passe compose lines to retell the poem. I also have a worksheet that helps students write their own version

This Mad Libs activity requires students to use verbs in the passé composé (including reflexives), impératif and future proche. They must also use verbs in the present tense and infinitives as well as after "avant de" and "après". There are some object pronouns and vocabulary dealing with chores, a party and routine. I use it to review for the final at the end of French 2.

This Chatman helps students have a conversation about their weekend or vacation in French. It is meant to be a reminder of what they can say and to encourage them to use a variety of expressions. It doesn’t include the translations in English. It provides them with set expressions/sentences such as “Il s’est bien passé”, “je l’ai fait”, “je me suis levé” and “pour s’amuser”.

This French chat mat provides vocabulary for students to use while playing games in class. While playing with this reference I tell students that they have to stay in French while playing dice games, cards or board games. This google slides guides students through the process of describing a Halloween character. This is designed for beginners who are creating simple sentences and practicing with basic descriptions. Most of this vocabulary is new for my students and they're practicing it for the first time. I have them write down a few examples from each slide creating different sentences. Then at the end they have to put them together into a description with a drawing.

Teaching style

My curriculum is self-made and I use a variety of resources including lots of authentic material and a range of textbooks. I like to adapt my teaching with influences from different methods and philosophies.
