Students will learn to use their identity to create a sculpture with an armature and paper. Students will research two artists that work with paper. They will be tasked with creating an artist statement to explain their process and connection to the prompt for their sculpture.

Students will be challenged to connect their traits and personality with an animal of their choosing and then construct a container that holds a secret symbol. There is a written component to the work to meet some districts requirement to include more writing in the elective classes. This lesson has alternative techniques to address different learning styles and can be used from beginning clay to AP 3-D students.

Students will create a body of work that is unified by using a linoleum cut design of their own making. Examples and rubric included.

Students will learn how to use wood working tools available in the studio to create a sculpture using the elements of art while focusing on line and shape in repetition to create a type of balance. Checkpoints and Rubric is provided. If wood is not an option the project can be modified to use with cardboard, especially students who can not work with power tools due to skills or sensitivity to noise. Teach your students how to create luminaries in clay. Using a variety of hand building techniques or wheel throwing techniques have your students create pierced clay vessels designed to hold a light/candle. Student examples from AP 3-D to Basic ceramics. Rubric included for Green ware stage, and Glaze fired stage.

Students will learn to turn a shape into a form. They create a sketch plan and then build a mold to pour plaster into in order to create a sculpture with voids, recesses, and elevation changes. Supplies needed: paper, pencil, duct tape, foam board, X-acto knife, self healing mat, masking tape, mixing container, Plaster of Paris, gloves, dust mask, plastic bag, table cover, paper towel, drywall sanding screen or window screen, scouring pad, wet dry sandpaper - fine grit

Teach a mixed media assignment for students involving drawing, shading, colored pencil, and collage techniques. Supplies: Shading pencils, eraser, colored pencils, magazines, scissors, glue, small paint brush, printer paper, project paper, and sharpie and ruler. Students will design a textural component to repeat to use as a building block to create a Vessel. The construction method is still the same if the students were to use a coil only this method requires them to construct the form with a student designed shape or form. This can be applied to use with both hand building students and wheel throwing students. There is also a modified example section for students who need extra support.
