Students will be challenged to connect their traits and personality with an animal of their choosing and then construct a container that holds a secret symbol. There is a written component to the work to meet some districts requirement to include more writing in the elective classes. This lesson has alternative techniques to address different learning styles and can be used from beginning clay to AP 3-D students.

Students will design a textural component to repeat to use as a building block to create a Vessel. The construction method is still the same if the students were to use a coil only this method requires them to construct the form with a student designed shape or form. This can be applied to use with both hand building students and wheel throwing students. There is also a modified example section for students who need extra support. Teaching style

I prefer to facilitate student learning with some guidance to challenge them to go beyond their comfort zone while allowing them some creative freedom in the product but still providing technical skills needed to grow their skills.

I teach AP 3-D Design, Sculpture, Ceramics, Honors Art 1, Art 1, Applied Art and Co-sponsor the National Art Honor Society at our school
