Teaching style

In my classroom, I strive to cultivate a deep understanding of scientific principles that extends beyond mere memorization of equations and formulas. My teaching philosophy revolves around empowering students to grasp general patterns and models, equipping them with the critical thinking skills needed to discern which concepts apply to specific situations. Guided by the principles of inquiry-based learning, I believe in fostering an environment where students are encouraged to explore, question, and discover. Through guided inquiry and inquiry teaching methods, students are not simply provided with answers but are guided through a process of investigation, enabling them to construct their own understanding of the material. Central to my approach is the belief that it's not enough for students to mechanically plug numbers into an equation; they must also comprehend the underlying principles governing natural phenomena. I emphasize the importance of understanding qualitative explanations and general trends, ensuring that students grasp why certain phenomena occur when changes are made to a system. By nurturing a deep conceptual understanding and fostering critical thinking skills, I aim to empower students to become independent learners and lifelong problem solvers. My educational materials on Teachers Pay Teachers reflect this philosophy, offering engaging resources designed to inspire curiosity, facilitate inquiry, and promote a deeper understanding of high school chemistry and physics concepts. Join me in empowering the next generation of scientists to think critically, analyze data, and explore the wonders of the natural world.

My own education history

My journey in the realm of education began with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. This foundational experience provided me with a solid understanding of the principles that govern the natural world and ignited my passion for scientific exploration. Eager to deepen my knowledge and expertise, I pursued a Master of Science degree in Chemistry from the prestigious University of Wisconsin - Madison. Here, I delved into advanced concepts, conducted research, and honed my analytical skills, laying the groundwork for a successful career in both academia and teaching. Equipped with a desire to share my love for science with others, I obtained a Wisconsin teaching certificate from Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin. This certification validated my commitment to excellence in education and prepared me to inspire and guide students in their own scientific journeys. Recognizing the importance of staying abreast of emerging technologies and teaching methodologies, I completed a software development bootcamp through the University of Wisconsin - Madison Engineering Department. This experience equipped me with valuable skills in leveraging technology to enhance the learning experience and adapt to the evolving landscape of education. As a licensed educator in the state of Wisconsin, I am qualified to teach all science subjects, allowing me to impart knowledge and instill a passion for learning across a diverse range of disciplines. My educational background serves as a solid foundation upon which I continue to build, innovate, and inspire future generations of scientists and thinkers.

Additional biographical information

In addition to my extensive academic and teaching background, I have served as a Faculty Assistant for the University of Wisconsin - Madison Chemistry Department for five years. During this time, I provided invaluable support in both general chemistry and organic chemistry courses, working closely with professors and students alike to facilitate learning and enhance the educational experience. With over a decade of experience teaching science at the high school level, I bring a wealth of practical knowledge and insights to my educational materials. My time in the classroom has allowed me to refine my instructional techniques, tailor content to meet diverse learning needs, and inspire a love for science in students of all backgrounds. Currently, I am channeling my passion for education and technology into the development of apps for iOS and Android platforms. These apps are designed to empower teachers by providing students with ample practice opportunities for key concepts while offering immediate feedback to enhance learning outcomes. By leveraging the power of technology, I aim to aid teachers in striving for individual proficiency based practice and instruction, meeting students at where they are at.
