I love using games in the classroom. They're such a good way to engage students and allow them to practise and consolidate new concepts in a fun and supportive way that builds social skills at the same time. This game is an excellent way for students to consolidate their understanding of simple addition and subtraction to 20 using fact family triangles and to further explore their concept of the connection between addition and subtraction. Another game I use with my 2nd graders to consolidate using the doubles strategy to subtract. "Double Trouble" is a game for 2 players and the aim is to connect 5 counters in a row by using the doubles strategy to subtract. This is a print and play game and requires only counters and a spinner (I use a paperclip and a pencil) to play.
