Moore Mathematics

I wanted to help students see that exponential equations apply to real life scenarios. The Murder Mystery takes about 40-45 minutes to complete and should follow a lesson in which students have already learned Newton’s Law of Cooling, and solving exponential equations. I chose to do the activity as a review day. Students loved the idea of solving a murder using mathematics. I have a hint sheet to help students who struggle with solving exponential equations. This is a PDF document. You can use these cards in a variety of ways. I place them around the room. I allow students two minutes to work on the problem then have students rotate to the next problem. I allow students to check their answers at the end. You could have students remain seated and just pass the cards. The cards are a fun way to provide students with additional practice.
