This is a "first day of class" type slide show that leaves the educator time to discuss and explain the usual start of year matters, but also still have time to have a meaningful discussion about how biology and scientific inquiry works.

This series of lessons, activities, and a lab allow students to test, discuss, and investigate Darwin and Wallace's theory of evolution by natural selection.

Use some readily available pieces of metal, such as coins or weights, to test and observe the property of specific heat capacity. Make sure that you metal pieces are made of one of the metals on the provided list from the worksheet.

Start the year or semester off by explaining and practicing the principles of critical thinking and scientific inquiry, AKA the scientific method. The project that follows the initial discussion/lecture works best when students work in pairs, but groups of three should also be fine.
