I have taught 6th or 7th grade math in the regular classroom and intervention for 6 years. I also taught Language Arts, High School PE, and Algebra for one year.
This useful hands on project answers essential questions like, "How can proportional relationships be used to determine unknown quantities?" This project connects hands on recipes with ratios and proportions. It also challenges students to graph and understand (1,r).
This project is a great way to celebrate the learning of writing expressions from real life examples (7.EE.B.4). Seven jobs are outlined with different payment scales and each one goes in depth with multi-step questions. Learners will be challenged with writing and using expressions and interpreting linear graphs. This was on my website for a while and someone found it and said, "Awesome!"
This worksheet/project has worked great in my 7th grade classes, though it could be introduced much earlier. I actually have students help measure out the ingredients and have the cookies bake while they work on the worksheet. It brings fractions to life while adding some fun! And it ends with a soft, warm cookie!
This activity engages learners in keeping costs within a budget and seeing the impacts of percent sales. Uses Common Core Standard 7.RP.A.3 with %/100=x/original price.
