Addition Math Pyramid

This is an addition math pyramid. Students add the numbers in 2 of the boxes and write the answer in the box above to climb to the top of the pyramid. Great for morning work or a warm up. The brilliant part is that you can easily change the numbers on the bottom and print a new pyramid everyday. AND it tells you what the answer will be before you print it. Made in excel. See the sample printout.

16 pages of morning warm-up activities similar to the sample. Activities should be done in order and get progressively harder. The students need to discover the horizontal and vertical patterns to complete the whole grid. Once they are finished they color or highlight certain numbers. My students usually start their day with these types of puzzles to get them thinking and adding quickly in their head. This is great for adding, subtracting, finding the difference, patterns, morning work, w

Not every classroom has enough base 10 blocks for every student, or enough space. Print these cards and have enough for everyone. Prints ten business card sized cards per page. Files are pdf. Includes units (ones), rods (tens), flats (hundreds), and blocks (thousands). Ideas: Print these cards on heavy paper or laminate to last longer. Use magnetic tape and show subtraction and regrouping on the board Have students keep their set in Ziploc bags Use the cards as rewards for good behavior, ha

This is a computer program I wrote for my classroom to use with math centers. The program generates new computation problems in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Its better than flash cards and keeps track of their progress while playing. The problems increase in difficulty for every 15 that they get right. Great for differentiation and it does not require internet to play. Includes: simple addition to larger addition, simple subtraction to regrouping and subtraction over

Experience

I was teaching 3rd and 4th grade math and science in French at a public French immersion school in Fairfax county Va, Now I teach 1st grade at an all boys public school in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. I would consider them all ESL learners

Teaching style

I sing a lot and use my undergrad degree of studio art to draw with the students to help tell stories of science and math.

Awards & shining teacher moments

We're teachers, isn't the only honor in what we are doing and the only award is the chocolate around Christmas time. :-)

My own education history

Received my undergrad degree in studio art with a focus in printmaking, photography, and ancient Asian art history. Also a minor in French. Received my Masters in ESL and then later added teaching endorsements in: computer science, elementary education, middle school science, and middle school social studies.

Additional biographical information

I go rock climbing twice a week, I ride my unicycle for my students at the end of the year and I sing the times tables with my students all the time. I knitted my first quilt last year and got my license to drive a motorcycle. I'm trying to learn the violin and I'm taking Arabic classes for fun. I was born in the U.S but grew up in rural Ontario Canada. I really like guacamole and homemade herb breads.
